THERE'S NO MORE BREAD -The Sandwich Apocalypse 2025

o o o o
What if you were dreaming of having a sandwich and you KNOW you have meat, lettuce, condiments and then you head to the bread box and discover you've got NO BREAD.

This is the question Mary King asked, what if the extremely wealthy lead singer of a big band discovered there was no bread anywhere in the house for his or her sandwich. We wrote the song "No More Bread" and then reached out to some of the best players in the business. This is THEIR album for you.

DAYLIGHT

A reggae tune Mary and I wrote, our friend Brett played the HoT DW drum kit. Sadly the SSD these were recorded on fried and the original tracks were lost.

COLORS

Another beautiful instrumental using all the colors of the guitar.

AIRPLANE OVERHEAD

One of the last instrumentals I did before my big cancer surgery. It was a nice floaty song, I saw a little plane in the sky outside the studio and that seemed like a good name for the song.

AIR

Recorded in Melbourne FL. A light and breezy instrumental.

AFTER MIDNIGHT

Recorded around Thanksgiving 1989, after I came home from a big installation project. I did this with a Peavey 4-track cassette deck, anHR-16 drum machine and a MMT-8 midi sequencer sync'd to the tape deck.

RESTLESS WATERS

My friend Amy wrote this song on her nylon string acoustic guitar and I recorded it with my B-16. When my studio was at its peak I had a variety of players come in and contribute to the recording.

The lead guitar part was a full Marshall stack of two, 4x12 vintage Marshall cabs, with a 100 watt JCM 800 head, set with everything wide open. We put that speaker stack in the middle of the 3500-sq ft studio (18-foot ceilings). That massive room ate up all the volume, it sounded great in the control room with the door open. It was a fun evening recording the lead guitar parts on Jimmy Griffins 18th birthday, we paid him with a bag of McDonalds. All the lead guitar tone came from Jimmy's fingers, he was plugged straight into the dimed-out Marshall head with a 30-foot guitar cord.

RIDE RIGHT OVER YOU

Inspired by Alice Cooper and my brothers girlfriend, BARB. She was nice, she was beautiful and she was dumb as a concrete block. The drums are from the original Roland 808, the boys in my band said it sounded like a rice paper snare drum.

WAR OF THE WORLDS

My favorite HG Wells movie. I had been doing a lot of sound effects for Sea World, that got me in the mood to do a bunch of sampling and I went crazy on this song. It's a new genre, Sci Fi Rock! or not

METAL MONDAY

From our 2009 CD, named for a venue we played on Monday nights

HOT NIGHTS

A true story about my dads 1969 convertible

CIRCLES

I was in my Steely Dan phase, whatever that was lol

YOU'RE GONNA FEEL IT

A rock'n song about hope. I used the MXR drum machine and my friend Todd composed and played the lead guitar.

TRANSMISSION BLUES

The transmission in my friend Michael's dump truck literally fell out and killed the day of work. This is the song I wrote for him.

SUPER ORGAN

My dad and I went to some big pipe organ recitals, he would play reel to reel tapes of organ music when I was a child, it left an imprint on me and spawned this song. I used the Alesis MMT8 for the midi parts and the HR16 for drums, it was printed to stereo played right out of the gear and that was that.

HAVEN

A song I wrote for my friend Dave Gillette RIP. Dave was super creative and willing to do anything to help a cause. I miss him a lot, few people are willing to risk it all like Dave, that's what made him such a successful Tech Director.

THE BEST IS YET TO COME

Another song Mary and I wrote together. While it is not a happy song, it is a song that portends to peace coming. On our 2009 CD.

HEARTLESS AND HELPLESS

My friend Bob created the drums for this using an Alesis D4. My friend Paul sang backup and played one of the guitar parts. Recorded with Alesis ADAT blackface digital recorder.

SWEET AND NASTY

ZZ Top style rocker using the MXR drum machine, right before it died, for good (for all our good ;-)

I DON'T KNOW

from our 2009 CD, recorded in the Rex suite at California Storage Masters

AFTER THE WORLD GOES AWAY

Recorded in the Oxford Studio, with a Peavey 4track cassette deck, MMT-8 sync'd on one track along with an HR-16 and D4 for percussion.

HEAVEN IS MEANT FOR TWO

From our 2009 CD. A song about love.

FOOLS ON THE LOOSE

1978 - my friend Gary played drums, Ken played the smoke'n lead guitars, recorded at The Little House on Tascam 80-8. This was a tribute, written in the style of Ronnie Van Zant.

DESTROY THE NIGHT

From our 2009 album recorded at the luxurious studio facilities of California Storage Masters, where you don't need air conditioning.

ONE NIGHT OF SKIN - Mary and Mark version

This song was in development for a number of years. Midnight Train played it out live and Mary and I recorded a studio version. My drummer in LA loved it, he laughed every time he heard it.

WHAT KIND OF MAN - KSHE '95 RADIO VERSION

As played on KSHE around 1979. This was the Seeds program where they played local bands, I sent this in under the name of my band so the DJ would give it a chance.

RED DRESS

This is the original studio recording.

CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

This song was conceived and written in 1983. Spawned from a late night jam with the bass player from Roulette (and a lot of Wild Turkey). This is all Rockman for the guitar parts, Peavey bass tuned down to D. I did not own a harmonizer, I played all the guitar double leads.

COLORS - Instrumental

A peaceful instrumental about all the beautiful colors outside on a sunny day

Daylight - Reggae 2019

written by Mary and Mark King, drums played by Brett on the HoT DW kit

ORBITER

Soar among the stars on this gentle unfolding musical-story. It's a place where space and time blend into an ambient background of relaxation and renewal. Analog synthesizers and guitars light the way on this journey.

THE CAVES OF KRYPTON

This is a space themed musical-story that takes you to places which live in the deep recesses of gray matter.

WEIGHTLESS

Weightless is a musical story, a magical place where everything floats in a universe of unfolding melodies and sounds. The nylon string acoustic guitar is your guide on this journey to a place where a peaceful mind rests, relaxes and enjoys the cool breezes.

SPACE COASTING

"Space Coasting" takes you on a gentle ride through faraway themes. Acoustic steel string guitar and nylon string acoustic guitar dance with piano, strings and of course a big palette of lush analog synth tones. The Weight-Tank compressor gets the Nylon string acoustic up in the mix like nothing else. It's a gentle story that unfolds as you’re coasting among the stars.

PLANETS

"Planets" is a potpourri of acoustic guitars against a background of synthesizers, evolving orchestral instruments and the choir. Meandering lead guitars escort you through magical places far away from where humans exist. Welcome to Planets.

METEOR

Another thoughtful musical story which uses many of my favorite synthesizers by Moog, Sequential, Kurzweil, and Yamaha. Nylon string acoustic mixed with SG electric bass. Parallel Weight Tank compression, all mixed "outside the box" using custom API-Neve-Soundcraft hybrid mixer, Neve 1073 preamps, eight Lexicon reverbs and one Briscasti to create ultimate ambience.

ASTEROID

A magical musical story, Moog synth tones, sweet guitar sounds courtesy of Lucille, parallel compression with Weight Tank Vari-Mu Compressor, Mesa Mini Rectifier, Vintage Marshall speakers, bell like tones from my old DX7. Mark King plays all the instruments.
